C-23
Anschutz Medical Campus - Aurora, Colorado

This abstract steel sculpture for the Anschutz Medical Campus is meant to represent humanity on its most elemental level. Using the 23rd. chromosome as inspiration, one part of the sculpture depicts the 23rd. in an XY configuration and the other in an XX configuration. Consequently, one refers to Man and the other to Woman. The copper colored band patterns on the two sculptures are meant to resemble the band patterns seen while looking at the two configurations of the 23rd. chromosome under a microscope.

It is my hope that this sculpture will serve as a universal marker for all humanity and there for a source of pride to its audience of faculty members and students that enjoy the reflective atmosphere of the healing quad on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
